Snorkeling and scuba diving at Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Altera o tamanho da letra

Playa del Carmen or just Playa, as the locals call it, is located on Mexico`s Yucatan Peninsula, about 40 miles south of Cancun. Discovered by those craving white beaches, gentle surf and outdoor activities, this once-sleepy fishing village has retained its small-town charm. Buildings are low-rise and the atmosphere is still authentic. When the sun goes down, the temperature goes up. Bars get into full swing around midnight, and Quinta Avenue transforms from a family-friendly pedestrian way to a sizzling hotspot.

Stay in the Hotel Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun, which offers adults an extra measure of romance and sensuality in an exquisite luxury setting, where everything is included in its 412 suites. Is a good option for those who want to admire spectacular ocean views and do diving activities.

Captain Memo
is a local man who keeps his sailboat anchored about a mile down the beach (to the right) from Secrets. He makes the best snorkeling trip for tourists. Small groups of 2 to 4 people come with him for sailing and snorkeling for about 3 hours for only US$40 per person. To do the tour, walk down the Maroma beach either before 10:00 a.m., between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m., or about 5:00 p.m. and set up a time with him. He also speaks very fluent English and has very knowledgeable about the area.

You might see octopus, squids, and a giant lobsters on the snorkeling. On several occasions, be right in the middle of hundreds of different kinds of brightly colored fish. The diving happens on the reef off of Maroma Beach, about 1/2 way between Secrets and the Maroma Marina.
